1 Configuring Hardware on a Computer Running Windows XP Professional

5 Viewing installed devices Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. In the System Properties sheet, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

7 Driver Signing Options

8 Controlling Unsigned Drivers Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. On the Hardware tab, click Driver Signing, click one of the following options, and then click OK: –Ignore. Installs all device drivers, regardless of whether they have a digital signature. –Warn. Displays a warning when it detects device drivers that are not digitally signed. This is the default setting. –Block. Prevents users from installing device drivers that do not have digital signatures.

9 Updating Drivers To update a device driver: Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. In the System Properties sheet, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. In Device Manager, right-click the device that you want to update, and then click Properties. On the Driver tab, click Update Driver to open the Hardware Update Wizard, and then follow the instructions in the wizard.

10 Driver Rollback Rolling Back a Driver If you experience system problems after installing or updating to a new driver, you can roll back to the previous driver. To roll back a driver: Open Device Manager. In the details pane, expand the hardware category to which the device driver belongs, right-click the device driver, and then click Properties. On the Driver tab, click Roll Back Driver. In the dialog box, click Yes, and then click OK.
