Acids alkalis and salts IGCSE Chemistry

Identify the products of the reaction of acid with carbonate How can you prepare a soluble salt? Identify the products of the reaction of acid with carbonate Describe the steps needed to prepare a soluble salt Describe the steps needed to obtain a dry sample of a salt

Reactions of acids

Preparation of Calcium Chloride How can you prepare a dry sample of calcium chloride? 4.7 describe how to prepare soluble salts from acids

Hydrochloric acid Calcium carbonate Safety Hazards

4.7 describe how to prepare soluble salts from acids Apparatus 4.7 describe how to prepare soluble salts from acids

4.7 describe how to prepare soluble salts from acids Set-up And Method Method Measure 50 ml of HCl and transfer them into a beaker. Carefully add one spatula of CaCO3 and stir using a glass rod. Keep on adding CaCO3 until no more fizzing. Filter the content of the beaker and wash the filtrate with some distilled water. Transfer the filtrate into an evaporating dish then evaporate 2/3 of the solution. Leave the evaporating dish to cool overnight. 4.7 describe how to prepare soluble salts from acids

You Have 15 Minutes To Complete This Task 4.7 describe how to prepare soluble salts from acids

4.7 describe how to prepare soluble salts from acids Check Your Knowledge 1.What is the name of the gas produced in this reaction? How can you test its presence? 2.Why you did not evaporate the whole solution? 3.Why did you add excess amount of calcium carbonate to the acid? 4.What is the name of the residue on the filter paper?   4.7 describe how to prepare soluble salts from acids

4.7 describe how to prepare soluble salts from acids Check Your Knowledge 5.Write the word and chemical equations for the reaction of hydrochloric acid with calcium carbonate. Word equation: Chemical equation   6.Suggest the suitable chemicals that could be used to produce the following salts: Magnesium bromide Sodium nitrate (Plenary) 4.7 describe how to prepare soluble salts from acids
