Presentation transcript:

Learning Styles What are Learning Styles? Step into the circle activity Strengths and Strategies for VARK learning styles Review of goals based on VARK results

Tips for Visual Learners Draw pictures, mind maps, flowcharts, timelines, etc. as part of your note taking Spend extra time looking over Power Point slides and outlines and flowcharts in your books. Recreate these visual aids when you read and study Use underlining, highlighting or different colored pens to visualize differences among notes and readings

Tips for Auditory Learners Sit close to the instructor so you can hear all that is said Listen to the textbook, professor’s lectures on-line, I- Pod, mp3, etc. Go to professors office hours and discuss lectures Join a study group

Tips for Reading/Writing Learners Write out key words, phrases and concepts repetitively. Rewrite the ideas and principles in your own words Organize any diagrams, graphs ... into statements

Tips for Kinesthetic Learners Look for or ask for real world examples of what you are learning Develop models or other physical examples to help convey information Role play or debate topics discussed in class Find ways to move around when learning new topics (notecards on a treadmill, standing at a white board to draw out concepts, etc.)

Goal Setting Review Review your goals with your learning preferences in mind Get back in a pair with your Goal Setting partner Based on your learning preferences (either from VARK or what you already know about yourself), have a conversation with your partner and let them add, delete or change your goals to reflect how you learn best.
