Internet Safety Grades 3-4

What is the Internet? The Internet is a huge collection of computers around the world. These computers are all linked together, and they can "talk" to each other, sharing information. If your computer is connected to the Internet, it can be connected to millions of other computers, in many different parts of the world.

When was the Internet invented? Ideas about getting computers to 'talk' were first thought of in the 1960s. In 1990 Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau invented the World Wide Web to make a common space where people could share information. Today there are billions of websites online.

What can you do on the Internet? Find information on the World Wide Web Communicate with friends and family Shop for items and have them delivered to your home Listen to music Watch videos Play games Collaborate (work with) other people online
