If you wouldn’t say it to a stranger on the street, don’t share it with strangers on the internet…

11 Meeting Follow the SMART rules
Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous. Remember, online friends are still strangers even if you have been talking to them for a long time.

12 Accepting Follow the SMART rules Dealing with Cyber
Think before you accept something from someone online e.g. a file, a download, a picture etc. It may contain a virus. If you don’t know who it’s from, and it has an attachment… DELETE IT!

13 Reliable Follow the SMART rules Not everyone online is trustworthy.
Somebody may be lying about their age and who they are. Make sure you know who you are talking to and use reputable sites and services to protect you and your computer.

14 Tell Follow the SMART rules
Tell a parent, carer or trusted adult if someone, or something makes you feel worried or uncomfortable online. Also, tell someone if a friend of yours needs help online too. Tell

15 What to do! Don't reply to messages that are meant to harass or
upset you. This is likely to encourage the bully Keep the message; you don't have to read it, but keep it as proof. It is vital to have a record of the incident when you look for help or want to report it Do not or print out the image Report problems to people who can do something about it, parents, school, police Block the sender. You don’t have to put up with someone harassing you - block unwanted senders! Tell someone you trust. Talking to your parents, friends, a teacher, youth leader is usually the first step in dealing with any issue Talk to Childline Respect yourself and respect others - Being online is very public and very real, although it doesn’t always feel that way Discuss and share then clarify with the bullet points.

16 Where to go for help! National organisations that support young people to stay safe online. CEOP-  Childnet - NSPCC - Childline - Think U Know - Ask About Games - Internet Matters - It is important to make this section available to students without them having to ask for it. Printing this slide as a compulsory handout, or making the information available on the school website are two ways to approach this.
