BANFF NATIONAL PARK 100 Km. west of Calgary Trans-Canada highway (#1) runs through Has boundaries with 3 other national parks (Kootenay, Yoho and Jasper) 100 kilometres

The border of BC and Alberta is known as “ The Continental divide ” ( the western boundary of the park ) BANFF is the name for the main town in the park

Is still famous for it’s mineral rich hot springs ( The Original Tourist Attraction )

Has wildlife that many tourists see Goats Sheep Bears Elk

Many Plans are being made to avoid Wildlife death on roads

Banff Park Wolf Project The Central Rockies Wolf Project Studied Wolves. It has now disbanded. Wolves are the natural top carnivore of this ecosystem. They are now sadly low in number which in turn affects all other animals below on the food chain.

It is now rare to see a Wolf in Banff as wolf were hunted historically within and near the park

Prey such as Elk are now numerous creating problems in townsites

Mule Deer are also very Numerous

Grizzly Bears can be seen but are often active only at NIGHT

Some Grizzlies need to be relocated as they get too close for comfort In Banff, they have also been scientifically studied

They even have a Restaurant in Banff

The Banff Springs Hotel is a famous CP HOTEL. This was the original hotel in Banff National Park

The Park has 3 Ski Mountains

A Famous Gondola ride is another tourist favourite on Sulphur Mountain

The Ice-fields are in Banff and Jasper parks. All ice sheets get smaller every year. You can walk Glaciers here in Mid July

Streets in Town have animal names

A Museum has many stuffed animals for those who don’t get a chance to see them in the wild

Camping and hiking are also popular things for recreation. Interaction with wildlife is more likely when you do this!

Hiking can be in planned areas or in the “back country”

Like all National parks it is set aside for the benefit, education and enjoyment of all Canadians. One benefit is that it preserves some unique natural habitat and creatures. This is often at conflict with education and enjoyment.

Many animals and preservationists are probably ….

Some interesting animal and people moments can happen in this park
