Current Use of Music Music; A Digital World Return Table of Content Continue Current Use of Music Music; A Digital World Today most families have converted from analog to digital. But you do have some who have rejected the digital world, and as the world of technology continues to evolve others will reject it. The analog to digital transfer allowed the music being recorded to be a perfect copy without distortion, to simulate a repeated original recording. Use of the digital conversion has allowed music to be recorded, duplicated, and distributed more efficiently. http://www.move.de/amm/STYLESH.htm

Current Use of Music Music; A Digital World What is MP3? Return Table of Content Continue Current Use of Music Music; A Digital World What is MP3? MP3 is an encoding program takes a standard uncompressed audio file and compresses it to roughly one-tenth of its original size MP3 allowed users to take digital content files post them on the Web. It is this point that concerns the record industry the most. File-sharing programs like Napster and Gnutella allow users to connect with other users via the Internet and share their MP3 collections without paying in some cases. http://wings.buffalo.edu/publications/mcjrnl/v7n2/freebornmp3.html

Music Competition Who is the real competitor? Return Table of Content Continue Music Competition Who is the real competitor? Competition among music started out as a struggle in music diversification. Competition then moved among different music labels. Competition is now the problem of survival against MP3 sharing. http://wings.buffalo.edu/publications/mcjrnl/v7n2/freebornmp3.html

Return Table of Content Continue Music Direction The direction of music as an industry is definitely in a mode of change/ adaptation. For those who can not adapt will not survive. To fight or slow this transition into MP3 sharing many music labels have sought legal action against these library sharing sites. Developments in new "watermarked" digital music technologies, such as the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI), as possible replacements for the MP3 codec. They'd be superior to MP3s from the audio standpoint, but would include special encryption codes preventing their widespread distribution http://wings.buffalo.edu/publications/mcjrnl/v7n2/freebornmp3.html
