Electronica Electronica is a music genre encompassing a wide range of contemporary electronic music designed for a wide range of uses, including foreground listening, some forms of dancing, and background music for other activities. The style makes use of synthesisers, samples and loops.

Rap Rap is spoken or chanted rhyming lyrics in time with a beat.
Rapping can be traced back to its African roots. Centuries before hip hop music existed, the griots of West Africa were delivering stories rhythmically, over drums and sparse instrumentation. Such connections have been acknowledged by many modern artists, modern day "griots", spoken word artists, mainstream news sources, and academics.

Hip Hop Hip-Hop emerged in New York in the 1970’s. DJ’s played percussion loops (drum samples of sound that were looped round again and again) to create a strong rhythmic beat. In Hip Hop everything is built up in layers. There are midi drum patterns (computerised patterns) a bass line, supporting orchestration (synthesizer, strings, piano, etc).

Celtic Rock Celtic rock is a genre of folk rock and a form of Celtic fusion which incorporates Celtic music, instrumentation and themes into a rock music context. Well known bands include Runrig, Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Treacherous Orchestra…

Musical Musical theatre is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The story and emotional content of a musical – humour, pathos, love, anger – are communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole

Indie (Higher) Independent music (often shortened to indie music or indie) is music produced independently from major commercial record labels or their subsidiaries, a process that may include an autonomous, do-it-yourself approach to recording and publishing. The term indie is sometimes also used to describe a genre (such as indie rock, indie metal or indie pop); as a genre term, "indie" may include music that is not independently produced, and most independent music artists do not fall into a single, defined musical style or genre and usually create music that can be categorized into other genres.

Jazz Funk (Higher) a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong back beat (groove), electrified sounds and an early prevalence of analog synthesizers. The integration of funk, soul, and R&B music and styles into jazz resulted in the creation of a genre whose spectrum is quite wide and ranges from strong jazz improvisation to soul, funk or disco with jazz arrangements, jazz riffs, and jazz solos, and sometimes soul vocals.

New Wave (Higher) Bands from the late 70s and early 80s who followed on from the punk genre were described as ‘new wave’. The style diversified from being driven by heavy guitars to incorporating synths and became an inclusive term for a number of sub genres. Bands like Blondie and Talking Heads could be described as new wave.

Musique concrete (Higher)
A musical form made from recordings of musical instruments, voice, and the natural environment as well as those created using synthesizers and computer- based digital signal processing. Also, compositions in this idiom are not restricted to the normal musical rules of melody, harmony, rhythm, metre, and so on.  Pierre Schaeffer - Apostrophe

Mp3 player An MP3 player is a portable audio device people can use to listen to songs saved in the MP3 format. They can use USBcords to connect the device to computers, so that computer files can be transferred to players internal memory.  MP3s are audio files that have been made smaller by removing sounds that the human ear cannot hear.

Virtual instrument A software instrument can be a synthesized version of a real instrument (like the sounds of a violin or drums), or a unique instrument, generated by computer software. Software instruments have been made popular by the convergence of synthesizers and computers, as well as sequencing software like GarageBand, Logic Pro.
