Student Success Dec. 4, 2012

Recruit, Retain and Graduate Long-term Enrollment Plan – Ensure we enroll students who will be successful at BGSU Traditional UG student population Non-traditional UG student population Graduate Students (full-time and part-time) Why goal of 25,000 student headcount?

Traditional UG Students Of highly qualified, admitted students, increase number of enrolled students (yield) – Adjust scholarship program For example, increase number of “honors scholarship” awards – Focus on majors with low yield rates For example, “pre-professional” programs – Personalize admission programs for highly qualified students – Better articulate the value of a BGSU undergraduate degree

Non-Traditional UG Students Increase number of qualified transfer students – Leverage articulation agreements to attract students in specific programs – New transfer student orientation (day, evening, virtual) – Workshops for community college counselors/advisors – Increase outreach efforts in key metropolitan areas throughout Ohio – “Finish What you Started” – a degree completion program for “stop-outs”

Graduate Students Aligned with the Graduate Programs Strategic Plan – Develop new programs for “professional” masters programs as well as interdisciplinary programs – Develop additional accelerated bachelor/masters programs – Strategically allocate existing scholarship dollars

Graduate and UG Student International – Focus on specific countries and regions (China, India, South Korea, key countries in South America and Middle East) – Faculty-led recruiting trips and affiliation agreements – Visits to Embassies Alternative Delivery Methods (On-line, Hybrid, Weekend, Evening programs) – Increase visibility of existing programs – Develop additional alternative delivery methods of existing programs – Develop new programs

Retain and Graduate Academic and Administrative Policies and Procedures Support and Feedback for Students Progress Reporting Learning Commons Academic and Career Advising Academics Assessment of Student Learning Learning Assistants in Large Lecturers Linked Courses First-year Academic Seminar Faculty Support and Development (Grants and integration of centers) Ongoing Faculty Conversations (Craig Zirbel)

How can faculty help? Retention Aligned with BGSU strategies, – Identifying and developing partnerships with community colleges and domestic/international universities – New Program development Built on existing BGSU strengths Aligned with future directions

For Discussion: BGSU commitment to students Four year graduation commitment Experiential education opportunity for every student (internship, study abroad, service learning, applied capstone, etc.) Success based scholarships For qualified students, the ability to graduate debt free of tuition and fees
