International Community Foundation (ICF) Established in 1990 Grew out of a donor advised fund at TSDF Grantmaking: FY-02: $895,000 FY-03: $2.25 million to date Geographic focus: Asia and the Americas Country specialties: Mexico, China 67% of grantmaking along Baja California Peninsula 41% of FY-02 grantmaking focused in the area of environment and conservation

ENGO Institutional Strengthening Border Environmental Fund (BEF) established to provide small grants to innovative environmental projects and emerging environmental non-profits. Groups supported to date: Los Niños, Pronatura, PFEA, COPADEC, Ensenada 2025, COLEF-Ecoparque Partnering with FIC for future environmental grantmaking in Baja California.

Marine Conservation Recent grants: New Protected Areas (Conservation International, Pronatura) Conservation and Management of Existing Protected Areas (GEA, COBI, CEDO) Water Monitoring (Jan Jan) * In 2002, ICF secured $50,000 grant from Packard Foundation to expand base of donors to support conservation efforts in the Sea of Cortez.

Land Conservation & Open Space Protection Recent grants: New Protected Areas and Conservation Corridors (Niparajá, Pronatura) Land Acquisition and Conservation Easements (FUNDEA, Terra Peninsular) Scientific Studies and Land use Planning (Pronatura/SDSU/Backcountry Land Trust) * In 2003, ICF secured a $20,000 grant to expand the donor base for projects along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Environmental Education Recent Grants: Visitor’s and Community Centers (Pronatura, ProPeninsula) Educational Outreach (El Colegio de la Frontera Norte) Media and Awareness Campaigns (Wildcoast, Niparajá, Observadores de America) Environmental Art Projects (PROBEA, City of La Paz)

Give2Baja Campaign Objective: Increase level of philanthropic giving to Baja California among U.S. donors for the benefit of non profits in the region. Activities: Release of Needs Assessment for Baja California and Profile of NGOs. Outreach to individuals, corporations, private/family foundations, community foundations throughout Southern California as well as national funders Monthly donor dialogues highlighting work of specific Baja California based NGOs Periodic donor site visits Events with potential donors in Los Cabos and Los Barriles, BCS (Late January 2003)

Border Community Foundation Collaboration ICF/TSDF: Partnering in funding open space conservation in the San Diego/Tijuana-Tecate corridor ICF and FIC: Partnering in funding capacity building for Baja-based NGOs through BEF Jointly developed needs assessment & NGO Profile for Baja California ICF/Border Philanthropy Partnership
