2 Mission The Johnson Center for Philanthropy is a university-based center leading a systems-based, comprehensive approach to serving nonprofits, foundations, and others seeking to transform their communities for the public good. Vision The Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy envisions highly valued, effective philanthropy, equipped with expanded knowledge and resources to advance the public good and transform communities.

4 Community Research Institute The Community Research Institute offers: Customized tools and Research services Designed to help organizations collect and interpret national and local data. We work with our partners to share this original research for use in: Awareness building Local and regional decision making Program evaluation And more

6 Frey Foundation Chair for Family Foundations and Philanthropy The nation’s first endowed chair focusing on family philanthropy The Frey Chair works with a network of national advisors and partners to implement a comprehensive program of: Applied research Teaching, professional development Public service Designed to advance and promote the field of family philanthropy nationally and internationally

7 Institute for Foundation and Donor Learning The new institute brings together three dynamic programs to meet the learning needs of grantmakers and donors. LearnPhilanthropy.org Powered by peers and field leaders, LearnPhilanthropy.org is the place to go to learn the basics if you are new to philanthropy or to get up to speed in a new role. The Grantmaking School Our in-person and online courses are designed for grantmakers who have some experience and are ready to tackle issues like managing a portfolio of grants, developing strategy, or evaluating your foundation's work. The Foundation Review No matter what your experience level, the peer- reviewed journal of philanthropy is your source for rigorous but readable analysis of tools, results, and sector trends.

9 The Foundation Review First peer-reviewed journal of philanthropy, written by and for foundation staff and boards and those who work with them. Mission: To share evaluation results, and knowledge about the philanthropic sector in order to improve the practice of grantmaking, yielding greater impact and innovation Each quarterly issue provides peer-reviewed reports about a specific topic of concern for the field of philanthropy

10 The Grantmaking School First national university-based program for teaching the techniques and ethics of advanced grantmaking. Grantmakers play a pivotal role in assessing needs, analyzing solutions and improving lives within the communities they serve Courses address the complex work of foundation grantmaking professionals Employ curriculum design that is highly rated by grantmakers from more than 200 U.S. foundations

12 Our State of Generosity Our State of Generosity (OSoG) is a partnership of scholars, practitioners, and funders from four institutions that collectively form the backbone of the state’s philanthropic, voluntary and nonprofit infrastructure. The mission of OSoG is to capture, preserve analyze, and share the developments, achievements, and experience that, over a period of 40 years, made Michigan a State of Generosity. The four collaborating partners in this project are: Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy (as the managing partner) Council of Michigan Foundations (CMF) Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA)
