What Is Herpes? STD caused by 2 types of Viruses Herpes Simplex 1 & Herpes Simplex 2 Causes sores around infected area Can spread to other areas

How is it Spread? Vaginal, Anal, and Oral Sex Can be spread through kissing In some cases can be spread through touching It’s the gift that keeps on giving

Symptoms HSV-1 causes fever blisters/cold sores Can be painful HSV-2 is the primary cause of Genital Herpes Causes red sores/blisters that can be painful Flu-like symptoms are possible Can cause swollen lymph nodes May cause problems urinating

Negative Effects Recurrent painful sores Once infected stays in your system forever Psychological distress

Treatment There is no cure for Herpes however Anti viral medication can shorten outbreaks Clinical trials have been done to test vaccines for prevention

Prevention Abstinence is the only true way to prevent Herpes Condoms reduce risk but can’t prevent it If you do have it medication reduces risk of spreading it to a partner Lowering stress levels also reduces risk of flare-ups
