Organs in the chest that contain millions of alveoli.

What are lungs?

Tube that takes air to the lungs.

What is a trachea?

The trachea leads into two tubes called this.

What are bronchial tubes?

Alveoli diffuse this into the blood.

What is oxygen?

This organ at the bottom of the chest contracts and expands to allow air to flow in and out of the body.

What is the diaphragm?

A muscular organ that pumps blood through blood vessels to the rest of the body.

What is the heart?

This type of blood vessel carries blood away from the heart.

What is an artery?

This type of blood vessel carries blood to the heart.

What is a vein?

These very tiny, thin vessels deliver materials to and pick up wastes from body cells.

What are capillaries?

A substance containing iron that gives blood its red color.

What is hemoglobin?

A tube that pushes food from the mouth into the stomach.

What is the esophagus?

A muscular organ that mixes and stores food, turning it into a soupy mix.

What is the stomach?

The long, coiled organ where most digestion takes place.

What is the small intestine?

Organ where water and minerals from digested food are absorbed into the blood.

What is the large intestine?

The name of chemicals within saliva that break down starch into sugar.

What are enzymes?

These bean shaped organs filter wastes from the blood.

What are kidneys?

A muscular sac that holds urine.

What is the bladder?

Tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder.

What are ureters?

This organ converts wastes into urea.

What is the liver?

In the case of kidney failure, this method uses a machine to artificially filter blood.

What is dialysis?

The organ system that carries oxygen to the cells and carries away wastes.

What is the circulatory system?

The organ system that removes wastes from the body and helps maintain water levels.

What is the excretory system?

The organ system that breaks down food to release nutrients to the body.

What is the digestive system?

The organ system that brings oxygen into the body and removes wastes.

What is the respiratory system?

This organ central to the circulatory system contains four chambers.

What is the heart?

Make your wager

Draw the heart, labeling the following parts: left ventrical, right ventrical, left atrium, right atrium, vein, and artery.

Atria – upper chambers Ventricles – lower chambers (labeled left and right as if you were viewing on an operating table) Vein carries blood to heart (atrium) Artery carries blood away from heart (ventricle)
