Setting the scene About 1 in 5 Aucklanders are disabled An estimated 249,500 out of about 1,400,000 Auckland residents are disabled Disability increases with age and Auckland’s 65+ population will continue to increase Disability rates are higher for Maori and Pacific people NZ Census 2006 & 2001 Household Disability Survey
