When I grow up … I want to be a particle physicist!

"Visions of Women from the LHCb Experiment" LHCb is an experiment situated at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, in Geneva, Switzerland. It is designed to uncover the mystery of why the Universe we inhabit is made of matter, even though during the Big Bang equal amounts of matter and anti-matter were created, and to search for new phenomena in quantum loop processes involving heavy quarks. Although absent from the Universe today, these heavy quarks, the so-called beauty and charm quarks along with their antimatter counterparts, will be produced in their billions by the collider and their fate captured by the LHCb experiment. LHCb was designed and built by a collaboration made up of 15 different countries and 54 institutes. LHCb consists of 730 members, of which 143 are women. The LHCb women include students and professors, designers and engineers, computing scientists and electronic experts, administrators and radiation specialists, safety coordinators and project leaders. They are united by their passion to uncover the physical laws which govern our Universe. On this poster are shown some photographs which give a glimpse into the lives of some of these women, all privileged to participate in one of the most exciting endeavours on the planet.

Questions -What size should the poster be? -Where will it be displayed (who will set it up?)

Suggestions from our outreach officer: For March 8th, we can use the infrastructure prepared for the First Beam Day: 1. send the camera view of our control room all over the world using internet. 2. Paola Catapano and Josiane will film at CERN and LHCb. There will be CERN video, but also we can make our LHCB one. 3. Photographer could make high resolution photos in our control room Photos could apear on the public Web page and in the LHCb photo book (in preparation). 4. inform about this event on our public and staf Web pages before and after the event. 5. inform about this event institute outreach contacts.
