We are the Algonquian group and the Shinnecock tribe of New York. BY, SKYLAR, JONATHAN, SHAYNA,AND JORDAN

An Algonquians culture would be to hunt,build homes, and protect the village. Also to tell stories, legends, and oral histories.

Algonquian Indians eat fish, deer, and buffalo. They caught the animals by making traps, hunting, and fishing. They also planted food. The food that the Shinnecock planted was corn, and vegetables. The men cleared the plains so the women can plant the crops, and pick the food. The children helped with getting water and got wood for the fire, boys learned to shoot bows and arrow, build traps for bear, deer, turkey, rabbits, and learned how hunt other animals. Girls also learned how to cook, make pottery, and make clothing mostly out of deer skin.

Algonquian Indians live in wigwams out of mud, tree branches, and bark. The wigwams look like tepees. They also built villages where they hunted and fished. Many villages were built near rivers. Some villages were near open fields for farming. After the Algonquians had lived in one place for a while, they often moved and set up a new village.

Shinnecock women wore knee-length, skirts, and the men wore Lion cloths and leggings, shirts, were not necessary in the Shinnecock culture. People did wear deer skins and manteis in cool weather.

They traveled by (Dugout Canoes). The dugout canoes where made out of burning out the center of logs. Also sometimes on foot when they hunt.
