2 SS2H2 The student will describe the Georgia Creek and Cherokee cultures of the past in terms of tools, clothing, homes, ways of making a living, and accomplishments. b.    Compare and contrast the Georgia Creek and Cherokee cultures of the past to Georgians today. EQ. How does your life compare to that of Cherokee and Creek Indians.

3 Native Americans Creek Indians Cherokee Indians

4 Location The Creek and Cherokee lived all over Georgia. The Cherokee lived mostly in the North part of Georgia and the Creek lived mostly in the middle and south part of Georgia. 

5 Clothing                      Most clothing came from animal skins but some were made from hemp plants.    Some of the same animals, such as deer,  the Creek and Cherokee hunted for food were used for their clothing. In addition, portions of the headdresses worn were made from porcupine hairs.

6 Food The Creek and Cherokee were farming people. The main food grown and eaten by the Cherokee and Creek was know as the “Three Sisters"; corn, beans, and squash.  Besides these foods the Cherokee and Creek grew  many other foods such as sweet potatoes, sunflowers, and potatoes, and pumpkins.

7 Housing The Cherokee and Creek people lived in settled villages of houses.  The houses were made of mud plaster with thatched roofs. The Cherokee and the Creek had two different homes for the summer and winter seasons.

8 Life Today Housing Clothing Food

9 Native Americans Then NOW Lived in huts with thatched roofs.
Hunted, fished, and farmed. Used dogs as pack animals, rode horses, used canoes on the water Men wore breechcloths and leggings. Women wore long dresses. Both men and women wore moccasins. Men hunted and fished. Women farmed. Ate fish, deer, rabbits, turkeys, and fresh vegetables. Used bows, arrows, and spears as tools and weapons. Live in modern houses and homes. Buy groceries Use cars, trucks, and other transportation. Wear jeans and other modern clothing. Wear boots, tennis shoes, and other modern shoes. Both men and women have jobs in offices, schools, hospitals, and other places. Shop at the grocery store and eat all kinds of foods. Use modern tools and weapons.
