2 The Creek lived in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain regions of Georgia.
Introduction: Two important Native American tribes that lived in Georgia were the Cherokee and the Creek. The Cherokee Indians lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Ridge and Valley, and the Appalachian Plateau regions of Georgia. The Creek lived in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain regions of Georgia. The Creek and Cherokee Indians had to work with the land they lived on. They used their local resources for everything. Local resources are plants, animals, and landforms. 3 Tools: The Cherokee and Creek Indians used tools to survive. They had to make all of their tools by hand. Tools were made from bones, wood, and stones. They used tomahawks to cut wood for homes and canoes. They used bow and arrows for hunting deer, bear, and wild animals. They used spears to catch fish and for digging to plant food. 4 Clothes: The Cherokee and Creek Indians used animal skins for their clothing. They made the skin of deer, bear, and beaver soft for their clothes. Men wore breechcloth made from deer skin around their waist. Men wore porcupine headdresses during war. Women wore shirts and skirts made from animals skin and grass. 5 Homes: The Cherokee and the Creek built summer homes called Longhouses and winter homes called Wigwams. A Wigwam was a small round home made from tree bark. It was safe and warm from winter weather. A Longhouse was made from trees and grass. It had no windows and had many families living in one house. 6 The Cherokee and Creek Indians were farmers and hunters.
Food: The Cherokee and Creek Indians were farmers and hunters. They grew corn, beans, and squash. They hunted deer, bear, turkey, fish, and other wild animals. Men used bow and arrows to hunt deer and bear. They used spears to catch fish in rivers. Women did most of the farming and planted corn, beans, and squash. Accomplishments: The Cherokee and Creek Indians had many skills. Storytelling was very important to the Native Americans. They passed down many stories and legends. They created beautiful pottery, baskets, and art. The Cherokee were the only Native Americans with a writing system, created by Sequoyah.
