The Three Branches of Government

The Executive Branch is headed by the President. He lives in the White House, in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities of the Executive Branch To see that the laws passed by Congress are enforced To suggest laws to Congress that the President and /or his party would like to see passed.

The Legislative Branch This Branch is divided into two parts. –The Senate –The House of Representatives They meet at the Capitol.

Makes the laws. –They may pass laws the President recommends. –They may decide themselves that a law needs to be made.

The Judicial Branch The Judicial Branch consists of the courts. The highest court is the United States Supreme Court.The Judicial Branch makes sure that the laws are carried out fairly.

Each Branch Can The other Branches. –The President can veto a law passed by Congress. –Congress can pass the law again, over the President’s veto.

The Supreme Court can decide if the laws passed by Congress and signed by the President are Constitutional.
