My Dream Career Becoming a Physician

Becoming a physician requires at least a bachelor’s degree which can take up to four years or more. After completing your under-graduate studies, your next step is to acquire your masters. The maximum amount of time this takes is ten years. If I choose to pursue this career it means 18 more years of school!

Physicians have a positive, powerful role in society. They diagnose illnesses and provide treatment for those who may be suffering from injury or disease. They counsel patients on their health and how to take care of their bodies.

Education Prices: The average tuition costs for this education is about $23,220 a year.

Salaries for physicians are among the highest of all occupations. Depending on which field is chosen, the average salary is $160,000 per year.

Office Hours and Working Conditions Most physicians work long irregular hours and must travel frequently. A full-time physician averages about 60 hours a week.

Lifestyle Working long, hard hours are part of the job, but having a family and time for yourself can also be incorporated.

My Back-Up Plan If I were to choose a second career I would like to be a physical therapist.

Physical therapists provide their assistance and services to those who need to improve mobility and are struggling with physical disabilities. They teach their patients various exercises to strengthen muscles and relieve pain.

Education: The majority of physical therapy programs offer a master’s degree and some offer an entry-level doctorate in physical therapy.

The average salary of a physical therapist in California is $68,495 a year.

Working Conditions The working conditions for this job demand a lot. You must have physical strength, and the ability to communicate with others. Full- time physical therapists work 40 hour weeks and often on evenings and weekends depending on their patient’s schedule.

Physical therapists may be self- employed, work in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and schools. Finding a town with any of these facilities would not be difficult. Lifestyle

Wanting to become a well-educated person in the medical field has always been my dream. I hope to someday be the difference in someone’s life.
