Presentation transcript:

 Process of controlling, directing, planning, and organizing

 Common way for employers to share information, discuss problems and make decisions.  Encourage open communication and encourage feedback.

 Requires very little preparation, time and space  Ex: staff meetings, committee meetings

 Have more structure  Require more complicated planning  Usually requires an agenda  Ex: board meeting

 Have agenda distributed and prepared before meeting  Start on time  Leader shares formal leadership but willing to share leadership  Elect secretary  Ask clarifying questions

 Diffuse efforts of members to control meeting  Decisions made by consensus  Side talk kept to a minimum  Eliminate non-verbal and negative body language

 Call to Order  Read and approve minutes  Committee Reports  Announcements  Old Business  New Business  Announcement of Next Meeting  Adjournment

 Jane announces school fair tomorrow  Secretary reads minutes  Meeting adjourned  President calls the meeting to order  Service Committee talks about recent charity event they completed  Steve proposes that the organization start a tutorial program

 Be sure your thoughts are well organized  Build a speech sandwich ◦ Tell them what you are going to tell them ◦ Tell them ◦ Tell them what you told them  Its not what you say its how you say it to be remembered  Personalize what you say

 Change the volume, intensity and pace  KISS: Keep it short and sweet  Provoke the audience to listen by asking questions or posing problems for them to think about.
