ERP, industry specific applications, Operations needs –All functions of IT – HW/SW/Storage/Administration/Development/Security Software Engineering –The creation of software for license (sale) or internal use by a company –Supported by an IT/IS department

What to Expect –You will have to write in a clear and organized fashion –You will be expected to speak in a crowd –You will be expected to collaborate, share, and support your team –You will be expected to escalate –You will be expected to understand the System Development Lifecycle – HUGE!

Success in College = Success at Work –Teamwork - making others successful, promoting your peers, ensures success for you –Writing a Paper – Substantiate your decisions and they can’t be wrong –Extracurricular Activities – Demonstrates ability to multi-task –Mentor – Find someone who challenges you and learn to challenge them

Tips –Don’t let your boss find out problems without you telling them first – No surprises –Make sure you escalate barriers at all times –When you present problems, have potential solutions ready –Don’t point fingers when you screw up, that’s the easy thing to do –Don’t punch the clock, everybody notices –Make sure you ignore petty behavior

More tips… –Figure out what makes the time pass (besides sleeping and drinking) – that is your skill, that will be your passion –Business Writing is essential –If you are managing people, set expectations up front, manage to those expectations –Success comes from making others successful
