No Child Left Behind  Continue to assess students with statewide content assessments LEAP GEE iLEAP LAA 1 LAA 2 End-of-Course Tests  For first year in English-speaking school, students’ scores on content assessments be coded out of accountability (SPS and AYP) by principal

Accommodations for Content Assessments  - The Tests  Test accommodations Should not be different from or in addition to the accommodations provided in the classroom during instruction and assessment Should not subvert or invalidate the purpose of the tests Must not give away the answers

Allowable Accommodations for English Language Learners  Extended Time/Adjust Time Intermittent short breaks during the testing period or testing in a number of short sessions may be appropriate. Some students may just need more time. Must be completed within the allotted test dates including makeup days Possible security issues if students are given breaks between testing sessions

Additional Accommodations  Individual/Small Group Administration ~8 students Based on student need Required if extended time on a timed test or tests read aloud is provided. Test administrator must be trained in test security and administration.

Additional Accommodations  Tests Read Aloud Exercise caution to avoid providing answers May not translate the test Read at a pace that students can follow. May repeat the passages and questions. May not read aloud any part of Reading and Responding (LEAP, GEE, LAA 2) Reading Comprehension (grade 9 iLEAP) Reading, part 2 (grades 3, 5-7)

Additional Accommodations  English/Native Language Word-to- Word Dictionary No definitions for all sessions but Writing Standard or electronic May be used on all sections of the tests A dictionary with definitions should be provided for the Writing sessions.

Additional Accommodations  Teacher or Individual Providing Language Services Familiarity with the speech patterns may assist students (especially if the student receives the accommodation Tests Read Aloud). May clarify directions on the test
