Vision: “A culture where rapid advancement and implementation of high payoff, innovative technologies is the expectation of the transportation community." Mission: “Champion the implementation of technology among AASHTO member agencies, local agencies, and their industry partners to improve the Nation’s transportation system." What is TIG

What is TIG Cont’d TIG is Technology Implementation Group –Executive Committee AASHTO SCOH Members, FHWA and Industry –Reports to SCOH –Lead States Team Concept for Project Team Structure

What does TIG Do? Promote Ready to Use Technologies –Annual Solicitation –Select 2-3 Focus Technologies (Lead States team) –Select 2-3 Additional Selected Technologies (AST)

2006 Focus Technologies : AASHTO TIG Maintenance Decision Support System (MDSS) –Lead State (South Dakota) (Dave Huft) Precast Concrete Paving Slabs (PCPS) –Lead State (New York) (Tim LaCoss) Construction Analysis Software Tools (CAST) –Lead State (California) (Michael Samadian)

MDSS: AASHTO TIG Uses Real World Data: –Current surface conditions, forecast weather, pavement composition, available materials, equipment, and work schedules To Recommend the following: –Treatment type, application rate, and best time to apply To Achieve these benefits: –Timely and effective maintenance, material savings, environmental benefits, and cost savings

CAST: AASHTO TIG CA4PRS –Decision-support tool in selecting most economical rehab strategies –Integrate schedule estimate with traffic delay calculation –CalTrans saw a savings of $6M agency and $2M in user costs in one project ($16M project)

PCPS: AASHTO TIG All inclusive Website –Matrix of Multiple Products and Procedures –Clearing House for State Specifications Planned Regional Workshop focused on education Forum for Community sharing of best practices

Additional Selected Technologies (AST): AASHTO TIG Notch Wedge Joint Maker - The Safety Edge - Shoulder Wedge Maker Balsi Beam - A Work Zone Protection Device Design Build Traffic Signal Projects

New 2007 Focus Technologies : AASHTO TIG SPMT – Self Propelled Modular Transporters –Lead State (Florida) AMC – Automated Machine Control –Lead State (Minnesota)

New 2007 AST : AASHTO TIG Slope Stabilization using Recycled Plastic Reinforcement Embedded Data Collector Low Profile Barrier Systems
