Presentation transcript:

This drill is a slight variation of a standard 4 v 2 keep a way game. Start with a 12 x 12 grid and 6 players. Have two wear red, two wear blue and two wear white. Start with red on defense. It's now white and blue vs. red. If red wins the ball, whoever's team lost the ball then goes on defense. If white loses the ball, then all of a sudden, it's blue and red vs. white. The thing that makes this different then most 4 v 2 games is that there is none of the garbage like "first pass is free" or anything like that. In order for the defense to switch to offense, there must be complete possession of the ball. If the ball is knocked out of play, then the team it went off of is on defense. Also, if you lose the ball, you are to immediately work to get it back (if I am on white and I lose the ball to red, I am allowed and encouraged to take it right back on the very next touch). This encourages the player who won the ball to immediately get the ball away from pressure and the player who lost the ball (and her teammate) to give immediate chase upon loss of possession. Either the coach or someone else should be on the side to serve balls in as soon as they go out of play. Done properly, this can be a very intense and very demanding game. Finesoccer Drill 39 2v2v2 Continuous Keep away Coach

2 vs 2 game withvsplayers play only offense and must stay in their zone. This sets up 4 vs 2 on the attack. After a goal or loss of possession players must retreat to their defending end. GK can only pass in their zone. Transition after Attacking with Numbers Up

The first way to do this is to start with three teams and a field broken into three parts with the middle part smaller than the other two thirds (the size of the field will depend on the numbers on each team which can range from 3 players per team all the way up to 8 players per team). Start with one team in each of the three sections (see diagram) Team A starts by attacking Goal 1 which is defended by Team B. If Team B wins the ball, Team A immediately tries to win the ball back while Team B tries to get into the middle part of the field. If Team B gets into the center of the field, they then reorganize and attack Goal 2 which is defended by Team C. Team A rests. If Team B scores in Goal 2, then team C tries to work out of the back so they can next attack Goal 1. FineSoccer drill 73 Transition: Three Team Game with Field in Thirds

This is a game of keep-away in a grid that is broken into 10 x 10 squares. The whole grid is 30 x 30.. The game begins with a player passing the ball to another player in a different box. The passer then must sprint into a different box as well. This forces the players to get their heads up to find someone beyond the area a few feet around. It also gets them into the habit of sprinting after every pass. In the beginning it will seem a bit hectic, but once they get used to it, things will go smoothly. Once the team gets comfortable with this, the level can be raised by requiring the sprint be into two different squares after each pass. This game can be turned into a competition where the teams get a point for each box the ball travels through on a pass (if it is passed through two squares into a third, the team receives three points). Points are only awarded if the pass was completed and the sprint was done properly. The first team to 50 points wins -- this game actually goes quite quickly if done properly. Keep away: pass and move to a different Grid

GK F1 F3 F2 Forwards Pressure Drill (from San Jose Clash) The drill is set up with two 18 yard goal boxes marked out with a five yard wide channel down each side. Full size goals and goalkeepers are used. The drill is designed to teach the forwards how to pressure the ball (as well as goalkeepers to possess the ball with foot skills). Once possession is gained by the forwards then quickly turn them quickly into goal chances. The game is played with five field players, two in each channel and one on the field playing keep away from three forwards (F1, F2,F3).The four channel players are limited to one touch and are not allowed to pass the ball to each other. However, they can pass to the goalkeepers. The object of the forwards is to gain possession and then quickly score at either goal. The object of the five players + GKs is to get a point by making 10 consecutive passes.

Objectives: Develops communication skills and tactical development Description: Using cones, set up three goals, 3-4 yds across each on the corner of an equilateral triangle (I put one across each side of the penalty area and one near the center circle). Divide into three teams, using pinnies or shirt color to distinguish. Teams can score on either of the other two goals from the front side or the back side. After a score, the scored upon team dribbles back out from near their goal area. After just a couple minutes the coach will notice players talking much more. They will also see players start to switch the point of attack from one goal to the other as it opens up, forcing the new target goal team to quickly transition from offense to defense. Three Way Soccer from and-again.com

Objectives: Stresses passing, support and possession Description: Game is played by two even teams with or without keepers (recommend without to start) on an appropriate size field for the number of players per team. The game is played as regular soccer but any player who loses possession of the ball must leave the playing field immediately (with all the players telling him goodbye), perform a punishment (ten sit-ups or the like) and wait until a goal is scored by either team when all "out“ players come back into play. The losing team at end has to do a punishment as well. You, the coach, must make the call who's fault for the loss of possession was: if a bad pass then it was the passers fault, if the receiver made a bad touch or didn't go to a ball it's his fault, if a player gets stripped while dribbling it's his fault. Do not penalize players who try for a 50/50 ball but only those players who had clear possession and gave it up. This game reinforces the notion that loss of possession hurts a player's team. It also helps a coach identify those players who are quick to give up the ball. The Goodbye Game

4 vs. 4 with large goals Two of the four defenders must be on the goal line before the other two defenders can tackle attackers. After a change of possession the new defending team must have two defenders on the goal line before they can tackle the attackers. In addition all four attackers must be beyond midfield before they can score. Transition: Race to The goal Line Transition: defend the opposite side of the Goal) 2 vs. 2 with 1 defender an a goalkeeper. If attackers lose the ball Then the defending team attacks from the other side of the goal. No boundaries.

Keep-away with a center zone 5v5 with a marked center grid with one player from each team. The outside players may pass among themselves or to their teammate in the center grid but they may not run through the center grid. The players in the center grid do not play defense against each other and no one may enter the center grid to defend them. To keep score count passes.

2v2 Challenge Setup: Start the soccer drill by splitting the group into two teams with a keeper in goal. Place two cones approximately yards from goal about 30 yards apart. Instruct one team to line up behind one cone and the other team line up behind the other cone (don't worry about lines because the players will be involved very quickly). Create a 5 X 5 yard box about yards past the two cones, and place all the balls in this box. Instructions: Have 2 players from each team enter the playing area. Each team will play 2v2 to goal as normal. However, the dynamics of the game begin when you introduce the two rules. RULE 1: If a players shoots and the keeper saves it, or the shot misses the goal, the shooter must quickly run get their missed shot and dribble it back to the 5X5 box. That player will then goes to the end of their team’s line and await their turn again. Once the shooting player dribbles back into the 5X5 box, his team can send in another man to even up the match at 2v2. In the mean time, the other team will sprint to the 5X5 box attempting to catch the team who just missed a shot in a man down situation. RULE 2: If a team scores a goal, they are awarded with a point, the opposing player closest to the ball will be out and must dig the ball out of the goal, and return the ball to the 5X5 box. In the mean time, the attacking team is sprinting to the 5X5 box attempting to tack advantage of a man down situation.

A B On command of the coach, the first player (A) starts into the direction of the goal and shoots. Immediately after this, he tries to tackle the player (B)who has already started from the other side of the practice field. The second player also tries to score a goal. If the defender wins the ball, he should head to the goal and score himself. For each scored goal, the scorer receives a point and for each attack without scoring, the defender receives an additional point - Players switch lines after each round. Shoot and Defend A B C The first player (A) starts with the ball approx. 3 meters away from the cone gate. He passes to the waiting player behind the goal during which the ball has to pass through the gate. If his pass misses the gate, he chase his errant pass and gets back in line. If he does pass through the gate, the waiting player (B) behind the goal passes the ball to the left to a there positioned attacker [C]. Player C tries to score immediately while the first player (A) tries to stop him. Afterwards the players change to the next group. Quick Counter Attack
