HENDERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL “The Grand Old Campus” CAMPUS FACILITY ISSUES

HMS HISTORY “The Grand Old Campus”  OPENED IN 1953 AS HENDERSON HIGH SCHOOL  ORIGINALLY HAD 3 BUILDINGS  BUILDINGS WERE MULTI-LEVEL STRUCTURES

HMS CAMPUS TODAY At present, HMS has 10 building units. At least 3 of these units have had additions added.

HMS SAFETY  There are over 44 building entrances on the HMS campus. All are being used during the school day.  There are 6 vehicle entrances into the HMS campus.

STRUCTURAL ISSUES The structural integrity of various walls at HMS are compromised, such as the science building and the front office area shown here. A recent sink hole has also caused a safety concern and may be linked to structural damage in the lower portion of the Science wing.

DRAINAGE ISSUES  WATER RUN-OFF COLLECTS / ERODES AREAS  CEILING TILES ARE CONSTANTLY BEING REPLACED FROM LEAKY ROOFS  WALKWAYS ARE FLOODED AND COVERINGS LEAK  WATER LINES BURST FROM PRESSURE DUE TO AGE

HMS WATER DAMAGE

HMS AIR QUALITY  EXTREME TEMPERATURE CHANGE FROM CLASSROOM TO HALLS IN BOTH THE SUMMER AND WINTER MONTHS IS A HEALTH CONCERN  WATER DAMAGE TO TILES AND CARPET INCREASE THE CHANCE FOR MILDEW AND MOLD TO EXIST

HMS TECHNOLOGY ISSUES  ASSESSABLE TECHNOLOGY IS LIMITED AT HMS DUE TO BUILDING COMPOSITION  TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT PLACEMENT RESTRICTIONS DUE TO ASBESTOS CONCERNS  COMMUNICATIONS ARE RESTRICTED FROM BUILDING COMPOSITION

HMS ROOM CAPACITY HMS has students currently enrolled. All HMS classrooms are used throughout the school day. Current HISD enrollment of K - 2 ND grades forecasts an increase of approximately 130 additional students for HMS.
