Week 28

 an act that would be considered a crime if committed by an adult

 An act that would not be considered a crime if committed by an adult

 The holding of a juvenile prior to a probable cause hearing; usually at one of the state’s Regional Youth Detention Centers.

 Often held for first time offenders; juvenile and parents or guardian must agree to it; juvenile must admit wrongdoing; the juvenile is under the court’s supervision for at least 90 days.

 Consists of two parts: (1) adjudicatory hearing and (2) dispositional hearing

 a call or citation by authority to appear before a court or a judicial officer.

 Somewhat like a trial; juvenile judge hears the case against the juvenile and the juvenile’s defense

 Second part of the formal hearing if juvenile is found guilty; the judge determines the punishment for the offense

 The judge gives out the punishment

 A conditional release that will involve supervision by the court
