IW TEACHERS’ KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNIQUES Types of IW Location of the IW Health & Safety Configuring the IW Availability of resources Parts of the flowering plant

..can improve quality of teaching and learning Enhanced pace of teaching Enhanced modelling Improved interaction with children …resource management (Allen, Potter et al. Achieving QTS Primary ICT, ch.15) Marzano study (2009) impact of Promethean Whiteboard WHY USE AN INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARD? - Supports the learning objectives for the lesson - Possible to achieve what was otherwise not possible

Ideal conditions: An experienced teacher Who has been using the IW for 2 years Who uses it about 75% of the time Who has had enough training to be confident in using the IW MARZANO FINDINGS: Proper use of the technology includes: Keeping a clear focus on the content rather than on transition effects Use formative assessment while teaching – do the children understand ‘Response rate’ – consider approach to questioning - ActiVote

INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARD – REPLACEMENT STAGE Refer to article ‘From replacement to transformation’ Link Replacement: Familiarization - shown how to use IW but no experience Utilization – used as replacement for OHP or flipchart Replacement - The Teacher uses the ability to annotate on screen, improve clarity of text and save changes to work. If there are technical problems the teacher would readily stop using the IW as the perceived value added isn’t sufficient. Term 1, S2 to find examples, in fiction and non-fiction, of words and phrases that link sentences, e.g. after, meanwhile, during, before, then, next, after a while - The teacher shares, deconstructs and annotates text on screen.

Integration – ‘breakthrough stage’ where IW is integrated into lesson planning and everyday teaching Reorientation – the teacher is beginning to explore the potential offered by the IW technology Evolution - continue to evolve and adapt learning and teaching experiences across the curriculum using IW able to provide support for different learning styles open to new ideas and developments searching for new strategies to improve the quality of the children’s learning experience teacher has developed a flexible environment responsive to the needs of individual children INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARD – TRANSFORMATION STAGE

Foundation Stage: Purposeful play IW LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Making guesses (use spotlight and rubber) Sequencing (use drag and drop) Story telling (use clipart and pages) Pattern making (use shapes and colours) KS1/KS2: Literacy: word sorts, replacing words, highlighting key words, sequencing, use of images for inspiration, using video clips Mathematics, including interactive teaching programs ( The Standards Site: Related Links ) The Standards Site: Related Links Promethean Planet
