USCG Auxiliary Deck Plate Leadership Series 1 Auxiliary Deck Plate Leadership Series ADM Papp’s Most Important Advice USCG Leadership Competency: Leading Others: Taking Care of People Learning Outcomes:  Describe ADM Papp’s most important advice  Discuss how to apply ADM most important advice to the flotilla/division. This is the third of six videos presenting ADM Papp’s view of servant leadership and how he applies the approach to his daily leadership of the Coast Guard. Reviewed, DIR-T USCGAUX

Lesson Summary ADM Papp states that listening is the most important advice he can give to a leader. Listening shows that you value your people as you respond to their concerns. Too often people talk of what they want to say and not answer the question asked. This shows disrespect to the person. USCG Auxiliary Deck Plate Leadership Series2 Reviewed, DIR-T USCGAUX

Pre-video Discussion How many times have you see someone on TV not answer the questions asked but rather say want they want to say? Do you talk first and listen later? USCG Auxiliary Deck Plate Leadership Series 3 Reviewed, DIR-T USCGAUX

Coast Guard's Definition of Leadership “You influencing or inspiring others to achieve a goal” USCG Auxiliary Deck Plate Leadership Series 4 Let’s watch the video ! Reviewed, DIR-T USCGAUX

Video Discussion 1. What is the “most Important Advice” and why is it important? 2. What does “listening” show the questioner? 3. ADM Papp said we have two-ears and one- mouth. What are the benefits of applying this thought? USCG Auxiliary Deck Plate Leadership Series 5 Reviewed, DIR-T USCGAUX
