SUBTRACTING POLYNOMIALS “ADD THE OPPOSITE VALUE OF THE TERMS THAT FOLLOW THE SUBTRACTION SIGN”

REVIEW INTEGER RULES When adding constants (or integers), remember given two integers with the “same signs, add and keep the sign. Different signs-subtract, keep the sign of the farther number then it’ll be exact!” When subtracting constants (or integers), add the opposite value.

Practice! = = = 12 – 23 = = -92 – 16 = = Different signs subtract and keep farther Same signs add and keep Different signs subtract and keep farther Same signs add and keep Write a paragraph proving that the last three problems have integers with the same sign

Rewrite each Subtracting Polynomial problem as an Addition Problem, then Simplify. (4a -6c)-(2a+9c) (3n 2 +7n -1)-(8n 2 – 4n +6) (7x-20) – (-5x -10) 4a -6c + -2a -9c 2a -15c 3n 2 + 7n n 2 +4n -6 -5n 2 +11n -7 7x – x x - 10 Write: If there are two terms following the subtraction sign, how many signs do you need to change? If there are three terms? Why does the question say simplify not solve?
