 Domestic violence is when one person in a relationship purposely hurts another person physically or emotionally. Domestic violence is also called intimate partner violence because it often is caused by a husband, ex-husband, boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend. Women also can be abusers.  People of all races, education levels, and ages experience domestic abuse. In the United States, more than 5 million women are abused by an intimate partner each year.

Teen intimate partner abuse takes place at an alarming rate. as many as 12% of youth in grades 7 through 12 have been victims of physical dating violence, and 20% of youth have suffered from psychological dating violence. This abuse puts victims in danger of practicing risky sexual behavior, unhealthy eating, drug use, suicidal behaviors, as well as physical injury and death. These victims are also more likely to become sufferers of intimate partner violence as adults.drug usesuicidal behaviors

Men or Boys can be the victim Men usually don’t report it because of embarrassment Every year in the U.S. 3.2 million men are victims The victim usually isolates themselves from family and friends The abuser will apologize and say he didn’t mean it Often times the abuser lived with an abusive parent The victim usually stay out of fear Partner violence does not discriminate
