Requirements of Afterschool Snack Program Must have an Educational or Enrichment Activity Must be in an Structured & Organized Environment Must have Supervisory Care during Afterschool (Food service staff are not required to serve or supervise afterschool snacks) Must have Full Access for All students –No associated costs or additional fees –No competitive school sports

 After the end of the school day Exception: “Expanded Learning Time” – contact your SNP Specialist to see if you qualify for serving snack during this time.  Serving time must end by 8pm  Program not available on weekends or days when school is not in session  Daily not required, can be weekly, monthly or any other frequency… Snack Time

Serve any 2* of 4 components listed in this table *exception: milk and juice 1 – 2 yrs old3 - 5 yrs old6 – 12 yrs or older (can use for all grades ) MILK, Fluid only 1% Plain white &/or Plain or Flavored Non Fat milk. ½ cup/4 oz. 1 cup/8 oz. MEAT/MEAT ALTERNATE Refer to Chart 3 in Food Buying Guide for more info..5 or ½ oz. cooked wt. or *equivalent 1 oz cooked wt. or *equivalent VEGETABLE/FRUIT OR 100% JUICE½ cup or 4 oz. ¾ cup or 6 oz GRAINS/BREADS *Use Reference Table In Food Buying Guide under Grains/Bread ½ serving or *Equivalent, ¼ c. cold cereal ½ serving or *Equivalent, or ⅓ c. cold cereal 1 serving or *Equivalent COMPONENTS AGE GROUPS with minimum portion sizes ASCP FOOD-BASED MEAL PATTERN

Meal Pattern Alerts  Exception to the rule of 2 out of 4 components: Milk +Juice ≠ reimbursable snack  The 2 components can not be of the same (carrots & apple juice, or bread & crackers) must be from different components  A pc or ½ cup juice does not fulfill minimum fruit requirement = ¾ c. or 6 oz. (for 6-12 years)  Sweet grains/breads: Graham crackers, granola bars, cookies, toaster pastries, doughnuts, sweet rolls, cakes, brownies, and fruit turnovers can be served, as one part of the snack, but no more than twice a week.

Point of Service Counting a Reimbursable Snack  1afterschool snack/child/day  No “offer versus serve” option  1 snack = 2 components, both components must be served and taken by the students to claim as reimbursable.

 > 50% Free and Reduced eligibles = Hash Marking Counts  all reimbursed as Free  <50% Free and Reduced eligibles = Student Roster Counts  reimbursed according to Student’s Eligibility Category: Free, Reduced, and/or Paid Eligibility and Counting Method Based on Eligibility Rates from Last SY October Data in CNPweb

Monitoring 2 On-site monitoring reviews per year required for ASCP  1 st done within the first four weeks from the start of the ASCP for the new SY.  2 nd, before the end of the program or SY,
