3 M/MA: breakfast Updated breakfast meal pattern: Optional 12-13 SY Required 13-14 SY M/MA is not required at breakfast. A waiver is required to adopt the new breakfast meal pattern prior to the 2013-2014 SY.

6 M/MA: ounce equivalent unit of measure Ounce Equivalent (oz. eq.) label was generally used for labeling alternate forms of meat. For consistency, the oz. eq. unit of measure will accompany all forms of M/MA components.

7 M/MA: Minimum daily quantity Meat/Meat Alternate must be offered as part of the reimbursable meal in minimum quantities each day. M/MA must be offered as part of the main menu item. Other M/MA must be counted. Grade Group Minimum (oz. eq.) K-5 1 oz. eq. 6-8 9-12 2 oz. eq. K-8* 1 oz. eq.

8 M/MA: Weekly ranges Maximum quantities of M/MA apply only to the weekly range. Grade Group Weekly range (oz eq) K-58-10 6-89-10 9-1210-12 K-8*9-10

9 M/MA: The Menu Template

10 M/MA: additional information Schools that do not serve a daily choice of M/MA menu items may not serve the same form of M/MA more than 3 times per week.

11 M/MA: additional information The M/MA component can be supplemented to meet the full requirement. Example: hot dog (1.5 oz eq) and chili (0.5 oz eq) will equal 2 oz eq for the 9-12 grade group.

12 M/MA: Tofu and Soy products Tofu and Soy-based products may credited toward the reimbursable meal. Refer to Policy Memo SP 16 - 2012
