Hole size Why the extruded scintillator shows such low light yield and non-uniformity?

Main objectives of the KEK beam test Check performance of various scintillator strips using the high energy beam –Evaluate light yield, response uniformity, variation –Compare characteristics of 3~4 different scintillators –Need to establish extruded scintillator strips for next ECAL prototype beam test in 2008 at FNAL

Fuji new test beam line ( Experimental Stage (7 x 4 m) Electron beam line p = 0.5 – 3.4 GeV/c,  p /p = 0.4 % Rate ~ GeV Spot size = +- 1cm Currently magnet setup is ongoing Start comissioning on Sep Available periods: Nov-Dec 2007 Feb-Mar 2008

KEK Beam Test Plan (tentative) MIP scan of the scintillator strips MPPC signal are read by CAMAC ADC Tracking with Sci-Fi tracker (position resolution ~ 1mm) 2-3 people from KNU (Korea), 2-3 from Japan Very tentative schedule : –~ 3 days for setup (need 1-2 days access to beamline) –~ 3 days for beam run (including 1 day commissioning) –~ 1 day for withdrawal Strip scintillators Beam Sci-Fi trackers Trigger counters

2008 summer : The FNAL beam test Establish the Scintillator-strip ECAL –Evaluate all the necessary performances using various beams ( ,K,e,  ….) with wider energy range –Make the SCECAL ready for the engineering design Combined test with the Analog HCAL Test  0 -> 2  reconstruction Measure hadron shower to test simulation model –Compare the result with various models –Precise hadron simulation will help study of PFA

The 2 nd SCECAL module (At least) 4 times larger than the DESY BT module. (Still need simulation study to determine the module size, depth, strip size) Fully adopt extruded scintillators Expect several thousand channels

Beam test related Jobs for mid-term Collect information about FNAL beam test facility (always) –Kawagoe, Takeshita, Uozumi Beam test simulation based on Mokka or simple G4 framework (fall~winter) –Simulate SCECAL performance,  0 reconstruction test –Takeshita (for old G4 framework to check position dependence of light yield) –Nishiyama, Ueyama with support of other people Establish extruded scintillator (within this year) –KNU guys + Nishiyama for measurement in Japan Perform a beam test in November at KEK –Manpower from Kobe, Shinshu, Tsukuba, KNU (need to discuss at next Japan-Korea meeting) –Check Sci-Fi detector, if necessary repair or remake (Takasaki etc.) R&D of MPPC readout cable (~fall, Uozumi, Nishiyama) Mechanical design and test of the entire module construction (Uozumi, Nishiyama) Establish gain and temperature monitoring system (this year, Kobe) –Test LED light distribution system with acryl bar and fibres (Ikeda) –Mechanical assembly of the system (Kobe, Shinshu) –Learn CANbus operation (Kaneko, Ikeda) MPPC mass measurement (system construction in this year) –Tokyo? Need discussion MPPC R&D (always) –Tsukuba, Tokyo, Shinshu Feedbacks from the DESY beam test analysis (Satoru, Daniel)

Summary We will perform the two beam tests: –KEK beam test at Nov to establish extruded scintillators –FNAL beam test at summer 2008 to establish scintillator-strip ECAL Works are ongoing toward the beam tests among all the group members.
