Status Report toward the Beam Test Quick report on the MPPC mass check Other beam test related issues –Schedule –Participants –Jobs –etc … Satoru Uozumi (Shinshu) Jan-9 2007 GLDCAL meeting

Quick Report on the MPPC Mass Measurement MPPCs The 400 MPPCs had been arrived on Dec-28 2006. Measurement was started immediately and finished at night on Dec-31. Measure 14 MPPCs at once, one measurement took ~50 minutes 38 measurements performed including some re-measurements. 50 min. x 38 = 32 hours in total T. Tsubokawa worked on it very hard! Treating large number of tiny MPPCs was quite a job … Quick check of the data was done during the measurement. Analysis is still ongoing…

Very preliminary results of 400 MPPCs Breakdown Voltage, Pixel capacity Mean : 74.04 V RMS : 0.35 V RMS / Mean ~ 6 % These results still contain some systematics coming from no good fits.

Very Preliminary results of 400 MPPCs Comparison with HPK data sheet RMS / Mean ~ 0.1 % 0 V op = bias voltage @ Gain = 2.75 x 10 5 is given by Hamamatsu. Our result is consistent with the HPK data sheet (even though our result still contains some systematics.)

Plan for the next 600 MPPCs 351 of next 600 MPPCs will be soldered to FPCB before the mass measurement. –No need for baking again –Easier to treat Current mass measurement system can be easily modified to the FPCB connector. With this modification, number of MPPCs per a measurement will be reduced from 14 to 9. –But we do not need very careful treatment of the individual MPPC, so we may save some time.

MPPC soldering Direct-readout megastrip source scan Install LED Delivery of 500 MPPCs Megastrip assembly Fabrication of megastrip layer components Megastrip bench test Prepare MPPC mass check system KEK Megastrip bench test Fabrication of Frame / light shielding structure Finalize module design MPPC study (response curve) Contact DESY (DC gas, safety issue, etc) Schedule toward the SC-ECAL Beam Test @ DESY Establish LED / Temperature monitoring system Analysis code / Event display Prepare Trigger / Veto counters ?

Beam Test Participants Satoru Uozumi (Feb 25 – Mar 29) Saori Ito (Feb 25 – Mar 29) Daniel Jeans (Feb 25 – Mar ??) Tamaki Yoshioka (Feb 25 – Mar 10?) Tohru Takeshita (Mar ?? - ??) Kiyotomo Kawagoe (Mar ?? - ??) Two(?) KNU guys (Feb 25 – Mar 29 ?) Benjamin Lutz, Erika Garutti (DESY contacts)

Jobs @ Beam Test DAQ ace Online data monitoring (check pedestal, dead channel, etc) Data analysis software / ntuplization / event display Drift chamber operation and analysis MIP calibration analysis Gain calculation (MPPC and electronics inter-calibration) MPPC response correction Quick result of energy spectra / resolution Temperature / LED monitoring data, correction MPPC dose test Any others? For BT participants : Please consider what you will do, and start to prepare for it !

What we will bring to DESY? ECAL module system, LED / temp. monitoring systems Trigger / veto counters, HV supplies Powerful PC with large storage (need to purchase?) Laptops with X-window system (Does everyone have it?) Oscilloscope, probes Testers Source-meter, HPK amp ? Cables, connectors, test boards CAMAC system (crate controller / interface) ? Tools (drivers, nippers, pliers, cutters, etc….) I will make more detailed list soon. Tell me if you need to put more items.

Trigger and Veto counters We would like to bring our own trigger counter, because the triggers currently at the beam line is too small for defocused beams. Does someone know where are the trigger and veto counters used in 2003 DESY beam test ? We could not find them in Fuji B4. Otherwise we have to make it. Moreover we need to flip the polarization of PMT signal. (AHCAL electronics accepts only positive signal for trigger counters) Do you have a module to flip the polarization?

Summary The BT preparation is going well, but we do not have much room on schedule –1 st stage of MPPC mass measurement has been done, deeper analysis will be performed soon The most busy part will come very soon –Megastrip assembly, source scan –Frame construction test –2 nd stage of the MPPC mass check Could everyone come Shinshu to help us? I would like to propose to have a face-to-face meeting with all the BT participants before the beam test. –Need detailed discussion about the schedule, jobs, plans and shipping items –Just after Japan-Korea meeting would be a good chance?
