Using Foldables to Develop Comprehension Strategies Staff Development Workshop Karen Massey-Cerda 1

What are Foldables? Graphic organizers with a difference Multi dimensional Interactive 2

Why Use Foldables? Reinforce skills and strategies essential for reading success.Provide a fun, kinesthetic tool for students. Enables students to quickly organize, analyze and review learning before, during and after reading. Provides an engaging and creative alternative to worksheet graphic organizers. Can be used in multiple ways and in all curriculum areas. 3

When Should I Use Foldables? When I want to organize material so that students remember it. When I want a summarization activity as a culmination of a unit of study. When my students need a note-taking device to support the reading of text; listening to teacher or peers. When I want to reinforce relationships between and among concepts. When I want students to have a study guide or aid. 4
