Describe, in detail, at least two main political institutions of the government of the world power you have studied The American Constitution outlines the powers of different institutions. It guarantees separation of powers between the executive, legislature and the judiciary to ensure no one branch gets too powerful. For example, the President can make appointments to the Supreme Court, but Congress can veto those appointments. The president is also elected every four years and is in charge of the Executive. The President proposes laws which are implemented by Congress. Obama wanted to improve the healthcare available for Americans to he introduced a bill on the floor of the house, but had to negotiate with Congress and make changes to it. It was eventually passed and became known as Obamacare. American citizens get to vote not only for federal institutions but state ones as well. Each state legislature has its own laws on areas like gun control and education. Andrew Mark Cuomo of Italian descent was elected to be governor of New York State.

Choose one of the following social problems; poor education, health inequalities, fear of crime or poor housing. Explain, in detail, why this issue continues to be a problem in a world power you have studied. 6 Poor education – why?: Lack of role model – 7% of children see their fathers going to prison. Absent fathers. Look at African American figures. – why?: Living in poverty Housing – suburbs vs ghettos/barrios – disadvantages of living in a ghetto – schools poorly resourced

4.Describe, in detail, from a world power you have studied, at least two responses the government has made to social and economic problems. 6 Gov. Response - Minimum wage (Economic) Fair wage Gov. Response – Obama Care (Social) Health Gov. Response – American Recovery and investment act (Social and Economic) Schools and Unemployment Gov. Response – Small Business Jobs act (Economic) Encourage investment to create more jobs, reducing unemployment.
