Presentation transcript:

Aliens have just approached you from Mars. They are in desperate need of your help. Their atmosphere is changing to become more like Earth's. They have discovered that if they don't begin growing plants within the next twelve days, their planet will expire. The Aliens are depending on your scientific team to give them the knowledge that they need. By: Sarah

Which Plants Are Best To Grow On Mars (To Save Their Planet) Which plants should be planted on Mars so that their changing atmosphere will allow them to grow Earth plants and survive? They should grow vegetables, trees, fruit, and flowers. You will see the reasons to plant these plants on the next few slides.

Reasons for Vegetables to be Grown Vegetables are used as food. Corn can be made into fuel. Some vegetables are used as “medicine”.

Reasons for Fruit to be Grown Fruit can be used as food. Fruit is also used as medicine, or a cure/prevention. Some are used for fragrance. Some are used for dye.

Reasons for Trees to be Grown Some trees produce fruit. Trees help turn carbon dioxide into oxygen.

Reasons for Flowers to be Grown Flowers can be used as decorations. Some are used for perfume. Some are used for dye.

The Parts of a Plant (Diagram)

Pollination Life Cycle The Life Cycle of Pollination The plant starts out as a seed. It grows into an adult plant. When it is fully grown, its female parts create pollen. Animals carry pollen around to other flowers so that they will develop a seed. When that seed is ready to be planted in the ground, the plant will let animals carry the seed until it drops and plants into the ground. Then the whole cycle starts over again.

4 Major Components of Soil Rock particles, water, air, and leaves.

Photosynthesis Process by which plants change sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water into food and oxygen

Transpiration Transpiration is the evaporation of water from the aerial parts of plants, leaves, stems, flowers, and roots.

Hydroponics A method of growing plants in mineral rich water without using soil. Hydroponics are also used to grow plants in impossible or impractical areas, such as the South Pole.
