Laboratory Safety

Objectives 1.Recognize safety equipment including fire extinguisher, fire blanket, first aid kit, gas & electrical shut off valves, emergency exits, eye wash, safety shower, and vent hood by identifying the piece of equipment, its location, and its function. 2.Recognize appropriate attire by identifying errors or suggesting remedies for the scenario or picture.

Objectives 3.Given a scenario, picture or description apply basic lab safety rules by identifying the proper safety method or ethical treatment for the situation. 4.Make wise choices regarding disposal or recycling by identifying the appropriate safety method or disposal technique for the specific example.

10 Commandments of Lab 1.Do not enter the lab or touch anything in the lab without permission. 2.Follow all instructions (both written and teacher given). Be sure to ask questions if you do not understand!! DO NOT conduct any experiment unless you have teacher permission.

10 Commandments of Lab 5. No food, gums or drinks in the lab. Never taste or smell chemicals! Wash hands before leaving lab. 6.Report all accidents and spills to the teacher immediately. This includes broken glass and faulty equipment. In an emergency call my name or come get me.
