Business Letter Letter of Request

What is a letter of request Explain why you are writing. Ask any questions you have. Describe what you would like to receive (and when). Thank them for their help. Examples: You want to take a tour of Channel 12 Newsroom. You want to go to the Grand Canyon on vacation, but need information.

A letter of request has these parts: Heading Inside Address Salutation Body Closing Signature

Heading Include the sender’s address and date.

Inside address Include the name and address of the person or company you are writing to. Place address at the left-hand margin, four to seven spaces below the heading. If the person has a special title such as Executive Producer, add it after his or her name (use a comma first).

Salutation The salutation is a greeting, a way of saying hello. Write it on the second line below the inside address. Always use a colon at the end of the salutation. Examples: Dear Mrs. Frisoni: Dear Sir or Madam:

Body This is the main part of the letter. Begin this part two lines below the salutation. Double space between each paragraph. Do not indent Keep the information brief and simple. Make it easy to understand.

Closing Place the closing at the left-hand margin, two spaces below the body. Use Very truly, Yours truly, or Sincerely for a business letter closing. Capitalize the first word but not the others. Always place a comma after the closing.

Signature End your letter by signing your name beneath the closing. Skip four lines and type your full name. Then write your signature (your name in cursive) between the closing and your typed name.
