How many people are poor? It depends on how you measure it In the world, over 2.5 billion people barely survive on less than $2 dollars a day (that is close to half the population of the world!) 2.5 billion is the same as 2,500 milllion or 2,500,000,000 people.

What does poverty look like in Peru? In Peru about 37% of the population is poor: about 11 million people

Should we care? Poverty is the source of many big problems: – disease and epidemics – crime and violence – migration and more – human suffering

What can be done about it? Education Health Water Food Housing Telephones Electricity

What can YOU do about poverty? Stay in school – study and learn Volunteer – help some people in need Encourage young kids to stay in school and to volunteer Learn about what your government is doing for poverty
