Technical Activities Committee Summary Award Health Status Other Award Issues Nomination Deadlines – Final Recommendations

Technical Activities Committee Award Health Status Not presented in 2015 (February 1 Nomination Deadline):  Space Automation and Robotics Award – Not enough nominations. Two new nominations submitted by Feb. 1 deadline. Nomination deadline extension NOT approved by VP TAC Riley.  Missile Systems – Management – Not enough nominations. One new nomination and one carryover nomination on file. This award has been on previous watch list.  Missile Systems – Technical – Not enough nominations. One new nomination submitted by Feb. 1 deadline. Award was given in TAC will discuss future of above Missile Sciences Awards. Perhaps they need to be combined or one eliminated. Now that DEFENSE Forum is up and running, that should be the venue instead of SPACE Forum.

Technical Activities Committee Other Award Issues Wyld Propulsion Award:  1 of 4 TCs responsible for award did not respond to AIAA in a timely manner to submit names for the selection committee.  Nominations finally distributed to selection committee on 4/13/15 after Propulsion and Energy Director Hamstra stepped in and formed a committee from the appropriate TCs. P&E Tech Director alerted AIAA to revision of the award process for next award cycle to ensure committee is in place in a timely manner. Ruth Digital Avionics Award:  Lots of discussion concerning award nomination date (Feb 1) being too far away from award presentation (Fall). The TC has been previously working to the July 1 deadline before agreeing to Feb 1 change ( from TC Chair).  Negotiations with TAC VP and AIAA Honors and Awards resulted in an April 1 deadline moving forward.  The Awards process has a few holes in it and HAC/TAC Liaison Hassan will work with TC to revise the process to HAC/TAC standards in advance of April 2017 nomination deadline.

Technical Activities Committee Nomination Deadlines – Final Recommendations Nomination deadlines will remain approximately 6 months before presentation at appropriate conference February 1 Deadline :  Awards presented at PROPULSION and ENERGY Forum (late July) and SPACE Forum (August/September)  Newbold V/STOL Award (presented at International Powered Lift Conference) April 1 Deadline  Ruth Digital Avionics Award (presented at Fall DASC Conference) July 1 Deadline :  Awards presented at SCITECH Forum (January) and DEFENSE Forum (March) October 1 Deadline :  Awards presented at AVIATION Forum  Jeffries Life Sciences and Medical Research Award (presented at ICES)  Knacke Aerodynamics Decelerator Award (will be moving to AVIATION in 2017)  Aerospace Communications Award (alternates between SPACE and non-US)

Technical Activities Committee Nomination Deadlines – Final Recommendations Other Awards requiring floating/manual deadlines  Hypersonic Systems and Technologies Award –Presented roughly every 18 months (alternating between US and non-US locations) –2014 conference was with AVIATION 2014 (June) –2015 conference will be in Scotland (July 2015) –HyTASP PC intends to collocate US conference with SCITECH in 2017
