The Principles of Design: The ways in which the visual qualities are organized. Emphasis Contrast Balance Scale and Proportion Unity and Variety Rhythm and Movement Pattern

Emphasis Placing special significance on a subject or element of design to develop a point of interest. Emphasis pulls the viewer’s eye to important parts of the artwork.

Emphasis makes the Focal Point important so that when you look at an image your eye will have something of interest to really hold it. Without it, you’ll find people will simply glance at your shots and then move on to the next one.

Techniques to Enhance the Focal Point in an Image Position - Place it in a prominent position. Simplify the background. Size - Make your focal point large. Color - Use Contrasting colors. Elements – Contrasting shapes and textures can make a subject stand out.

Emphasis through Position, Color, Shape
