The Red Panda By: Natali Sesma

Red Panda Information  It’s 42 inches long including its tail  They weigh between 7 and 14 pounds  Red Pandas like to eat bamboo leaves, fresh shoots, berries, blossoms, and bird eggs  They live in cool temperate bamboo forests in Sichuan, Yunnan, and Xizang provinces in China. They also live in the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal, Bhutan, and in northern Myanmar  Its scientific name is Ailurus fulgens and it comes from the family of Ailuridae

My Procedure  I will do research on the Red Panda (to know about the animal)  Make hunches (to find out the answers when I study the animal)  Gather all my gear (to be ready to leave)  Fly to the home of my animal (to study the animal)  Tag my specimen (to keep track of the animal)  Study it every day (see what it does and if it does something different every day)

Air Fair I will be going to Shanghai, China. I will be leaving LAX on March 5 and returning on April 12. I will be departing at 10:55am and I’ll get there at 4:10pm on American Airlines. My flight number is 183 and the trip is 14 hours and 15 minutes. It’ll cost me $3, for 4 people to go. I will be coming back at 6:10pm and arriving at LAX at 2:55pm. It’s 11 hours and 45 mins. I will still be taking American Airlines, flight number 182.

Equipment  Backpack (To carry stuff)$50.14  4 sleeping bags(To sleep in)$  Rain Gear(To not get wet)$29.95  Foodx4(To not starve)$51.96  Hiking Boots(To go hiking)x4$  Binoculars(To see the animal from a far distance)$62.29  Tent(To sleep in)$64.59  Nikon D5000 etc..$681.49

Why I want to study the Red Panda  I wanted to study the Red Panda because it is its own species. Scientist thought it’s in the family of raccoons, but they found out it isn’t really related to any animal from past time or now. No one really knows a lot about it so it’s kind of like the Bermuda Triangle, discovered but hasn’t really been studied. I want to find out if there is an animal that is in the same family as the Red Panda. Even this little guy is excited!!

Predators  The predators of the Red Panda are:  Snow Leopards  Martens  The main predator is HUMANS!!!!!

TOTAL  Equipment: $1,507.60lots of money  Flight: $3, TOTAL $5,089.20

FUN FACTS  Looks like a raccoon  Has a thumb like projection on wrist that helps them grip bamboo They have fur on the soles of their feet Their tail helps them balance in trees It is called a Red Panda because it eats bamboo like pandas People call it the Lesser Panda, Fire Fox, and Red cat-bear

SAVE OUR RED PANDAS  I don’t think they are very happy they are endangered, do you?  THEY FOR  SURE AREN’T
