Pumpkin Carving Next class, first hour!

Draw and Cut Lid  Draw a lid on top of your pumpkin. Make sure it is big enough so you can reach in and clean out all the pumpkin seeds. Draw a tooth at the back of the lid as a guide for replacing the lid.  Cut along lines with a knife or a saw. Be careful! Angle the knife toward the center of the pumpkin to create a ledge that supports the lid.

Clean and Scrape  Clean out the seeds and strings by using a scoop or scraper. Scrape inner pulp away from the area you plan to carve until the pumpkin wall is about one inch thick.  Rinse off the pumpkin at the patio. (Do not use the kitchen sink to wash off pumpkins! It stops up the sink.)

Attach and Transfer Pattern Choose a pattern you like. Tape your pattern to the pumpkin. Trace the design with pins. You can also make your own design.

Carve Take turns carving your design. Rinse off your pumpkin when you are finished.
