 The arctic is covered by ice most of the year.  Most of the ice will melt by 2040 if the global warning continues at the same pace.  The food chain usually starts with plants, of which there are not many found in the polar.  Antarctica’s ice accounts for 70% of the world’s fresh water.

Because their is virtually no soil in the Antarctic very few plants can survive there.  Plants that grow in the polar region are lynches, moss, algae and fungi. Very few plants can stand the polar region. There are no trees or shrubs.

 The arctic has very few plants. The have short growing seasons because of the permafrost.

DETAILSARCTIC CAN BE VERY COLD.  98% of the arctic's surface is covered in varies firms of snow or ice.  Average precipitation in Antarctic an the coastal is 20 inches of snow.  Antarctic has the highest precipitation of the continent equal to 36 inches of water.  The annual snow fall at the south pole is less than an inch of water.

The weather is very cold in the Arctic. The get little Snowfall because of the very cold temperatures. The Snow they have stays for a long times.

Animals of the Arctic

Insects that live there include the spring tails, mites, and parch. Steinem is the only winged insect native to the Antarctic Birds that live in the Antarctic are penguins, albatross, many pricks, pintails, and many other birds. Fish that live in Antarctic are ice fish, crocodile fish, dragon fish, robber fish, rat-tailed fish, and whales. Polar bear world’s largest predator hutting restricted on them because of the population today there’s 25,000 to 40,000 polar bear in the Arctic
