ACS 101 ACS is the largest non-profit, non-governmental funder of cancer research in the US, having spent approximately $3 billion on cancer research since There are 2 million volunteers nationwide. The 4 pillars of ACS are research, education, advocacy and service. In California 2/5 people are diagnosed with cancer, and ¼ deaths are caused by cancer. 2/3 of cancer can be reduced by lifestyle changes (diet, exercise, no smoking). ACS advocated for stronger smoking ordinances and state laws to protect employees and the public from tobacco smoke; lung cancer rates have decreased in all but the 18 states that do not have strong smoking ordinances

Fundraising Opportunities for Your Team This year, we’re giving teams the option of sponsoring a pre-set restaurant fundraiser. Your team can host a fundraiser that Colleges Against Cancer has already set up with CPK, Rubio’s (in Ackerman), or Chili’s. All your team has to do is hand out the flyers, and all the proceeds from the event will go to your team and can be applied to any team member’s fundraising goal! Here are the dates: CPK - February 10; Rubio’s - February 24th; Chili’s - February 3 Come see us after the meeting to pick up a flyer and sign up!
