1970s Summary The 1970s were a crazy time, were you either like rock or you like disco. In the 1970s the Vietnam War escaladed and ended, however it ended with a peace treaty. Till this day many Americans find the peace treaty as a lost. The 1970s also brought much attention to environmental issues that till this day affect us. The 1970s also started a scandal and brought the first ever resignation of any president in US history. Lastly, the 1970s was a very complicated times, with many protest and movements.

Political Cartoon E- The bullets stopping and the radio making loud noises. L- The Viet Con can’t win I- Vietnam actually win A- These soldiers are getting orders from the radio S- The camouflage the soldiers are wearing

Vietnam War In this picture these Marine soldiers are helping a injure/dead soldier back to their base. Back in Vietnam there was a saying, leave no man behind. These marines would bring every man back even if the man was dead. You can see that the conditions they were put in were horrible, the water was disgusting and there were exaggerated trees growing everywhere. These men were brave men that deserve much respects for what they had to endure in this war.

Timeline of 1970s

Presidents The three presidents at this time were Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Jimmy Carter. At the moment the most dominant of both parties were the Republicans since after the scandal of Nixon, Ford was able to win even though he was a Republican. A scandal in this time period was Nixon’s Watergate scandal, that supposedly Nixon send administrators to spy on the democratic party. It started with 5 arrest and later ended with the only resignation of any president.

Economics

Environment Issues These spots are known as hot spots that were influence of the 1960 and 1970s green movement. Many of the problems of the environment face today are problems that started in the 1970s. For example the destruction of the ozone layer has been in affect since the 1970s. Because of this many laws in the 1970s pass about safety of water, more friendly environmental cars, and even the president taking advice from administrators that specialize in environmental issues.

SOCIETY AND CULTURE The culture in the 1970s was really hectic since it went from questioning the government to disco. Helping the planet became very mainstream and women's rights movements became more excepted. 1970s brought a lot of anti-war movements which led to deaths not only at war but in the US. 1970s was very colorful and very outgoing. A lot of peace signs. Leisure suits became popular so did hot pants and clogs. Technology advance even further with the use of floppy disc which advance the computer and with the use of videocassette recorders. The music listen to the most in the 1970s was rock. Overall the 1970s were crazy years.

What lessons for Americans emerge form the Vietnam war? The lessons Vietnam has taught Americans, is that America cannot win every war they think they can win. America has also learned that they should leave foreign countries alone. It also show many Americans to stand up for themselves against the government. Lastly it mature Americans and the way they think. What events influenced Richard Nixon rise to and fall from power? Richard Nixon came into power by first getting the votes of the majority of republicans. He then when later on to beat Hubert Humphrey and then he crush George Mc Govern. However, with the Watergate scandal he was led to the fall of all his power. It led him to be the only president to resign. How should historians characterize the 1970s? I believe the era of the 1970s should be define as mostly maturity because it taught America how to fight the government when something is not right. It also showed America the dark side of the government an the wars it sends the children of tomorrow. The 1970s was a crazy era with many things happening at once to define it would be almost impossible.

ETHICAL DILEMA Was the Vietnam War really worth is? The Vietnam war in my opinion and I believe in many peoples opinion wans’t really worth anything. In the end America lost and we achieve nothing but total mayhem. All we really did was acknowledge the fact that America cannot win every single war it think it can actually win. During and after the Vietnam War America had some internal problems like oil usage, environmental damage, and anti-war movements. Much chaos was brought in this era because of the Vietnam War, that if America would of stayed out of Vietnam, it never would of happen.
