IPC ( Integrated Physics and Chemistry) Course Outline Grading System Important Materials to bring everyday

Course Outline Fall Semester – Chemistry What to expect: -projects ( adopt an element, research on a scientist/ inventor) -conversions of units, dimensional analysis -emphasis on measurement of quantities -periodic table, -balancing equations - Lab work ( 1-2 ) per week, Lab day is Tuesday

Course Outline Spring Semester- Physics What to expect: - A lot of equations used to solve physical quantities ( derivations of formulae) - Projects ( water fuelled rocket, rubber band car, popsicle sticks wave) - A lot of measurements to do ( lab activity, Galileo lab) - Equation sheet will be provided during the finals exam

Grading system Major – 50% ( Unit test, Chapter test, Problem solving test, projects, some lab, DAC test) Daily- 50% (quizzes, homework, worksheets, Lab work, post lab quizzes) Late work is 70% maximum for a grade, work is late after the period.

Types of Test Chapter or Unit Test (Major Grade) – usually Scantron tm type test - sometimes completion - multiple choice in nature - conceptual side of the topic Problem Solving Test ( Major Grade) - involves dimensional analysis - mathematical analysis of the topic - ex. Density, Gas Laws, Physics equations

Expectations Memorize the required number of elements symbols and names. Memorize the polyatomic ions symbol, formula and charge. Chapter reading quizzes – completion, multiple choice. Memorize the conversion factors (prefixes in SI unit of measure)

Materials Pencil only for this class Calculator ( four-function or scientific) Graphing calculator is not allowed in this class esp. for quizzes and tests. Book on line- Students are provided with a username and a password.

Tutorials 7:00 -7:25 in the morning. 7:00 -7:25 in the morning. Room 2123 except Thursdays (Hall Duty ) Room 2123 except Thursdays (Hall Duty ) After school tutorial is by appointment. ( Soccer Practice)

Conference Period Fourth Period address: 10:20- 11:00 am

On line website Calendar schedule will be posted under resource ( dates of quizzes and tests, deadline for projects) Homework on line*( some for a grade) Lecture notes online Review outline for chapter test Rubric for projects

Goal Equipped my students to prepare them for the higher and more challenging sciences. Developed an analytical way of thinking and improved problem solving skills. Appreciate Science and its challenges. Perform better on standardized test. (TAKS, DAC test) Science is not hard, it is “Challenging”.
