Let’s Make this Place “Green”

 We have been learning a lot about our environment and the pollution problems that have resulted from our growing population. Most of what we have been focusing on is related to the effect that waste has on humans. Unfortunately, this problem also effects other living systems, such as plants and animals.  When we started this unit, we knew very little about the problems our environment faces, and what we could do to help. One of the main reasons that these problems exist is that people are not aware of the problems, or how to help. Introduction

TASK 1.Complete this WebQuest. 2.While you are completing the WebQuest, you should have a piece of lined paper, or a notebook, to be taking notes. 3.Take notes when you find interesting information that you will want to use for your project, about how pollution effects the environment, and what we can do to help. 4.You will take the information you’ve found and create a brochure that promotes awareness of the effects of pollution on our earth, and also shares ways that people can make a difference.

 The first thing we need to do is find out what exactly we’re dealing with. What is pollution? Process Click here earth to learn about pollution.here

Process Did you know that pollution doesn’t just affect humans? It also hurts animals. Every decision that we make about our waste has an impact on our earth and the living creatures and plants who live here with us. Click here to learn about whathere it means to be an extinct or endangered animal.

Process Now that you’ve learned what extinct and endangered mean, you should know why these animals are on this list! Sadly you might find that humans are usually the answer. Click here to see a list of endangered animals. Choose a few animals to explore in North America. Pay specific attention to “Climate Change and Other Threats”here I would take some notes – it might be helpful later!

Process We already know some things that we can do to help, but let’s look into it a little more. Click here to find some really easy solutions. You might want to make notes on them!here Click on these words, reduce, reuse, and recycle, to find out what you can do to help. In each link there are a lot of items to click and explore. There’s so much we can do!reducereuserecycle

Process Are you ready for even more fun? Click here to visit Recycle City and see how one town went from slumming it, to hitting an earth-friendly home run!here You’ll find a lot of great examples of things you can do here! Click each part of the map, different buildings, and have fun exploring! And if you click here you can see how even a little water bottle can make a difference!here

Evaluation The rubric that was handed out at the beginning of class will be used to grade your brochure. Use this with the checklist that you were given as guidelines to create a brochure that is going to get you the best grade possible!

Conclusion You’ve done a great job and found a lot of useful information! Now, use your notes and everything we have learned to create a great project that is going to help make people aware of pollution problems on our earth, and what we can do to help!
